The principle

Sprinkler systems consist of a ceiling pipework network with a self-sufficient water supply. The integrated sprinkler heads are each closed by a glass barrel. The heat of the fire causes these glass barrels to burst and release the extinguishing water. The water cools the fire, vaporises and smothers the fire. Sprinkler systems extinguish fires with a success rate of 98 %.

The advantages of
Firian sprinkler systems

Fire detection and suppression in one system

Sprinkler systems detect fires as soon as they start. The system localises the fire, sounds the alarm and automatically starts the extinguishing process.

Protection for life and property

By containing fires quickly and precisely, sprinkler systems minimise personal injury, property damage and environmental damage.

Targeted and efficient

Only those sprinklers that are positioned directly above the source of the fire and can potentially extinguish it are triggered. Sprinkler heads outside the source of the fire remain closed. This saves resources and limits damage caused by extinguishing water.

The right system for
every requirement

  • Wet systems

The entire pipe network is under constant water pressure. In the event of a fire, the sprinkler is activated and the source of the fire is sprinkled with extinguishing water. Wet systems are only suitable for areas of application where there is no risk of frost or overheating (> 95 °C), e.g. in offices, schools or hotels.

  • Dry systems

Here, the water flow is blocked at the dry alarm valve. The pipework is filled with compressed air instead. In the event of a fire, the sprinkler opens and the compressed air escapes first. Only then does extinguishing water flow to the sprinklers. The advantage of this system is that it can be used in buildings at risk of frost, such as multi-storey car parks and unheated warehouses.

  • Pre-controlled dry systems

These were developed for critical areas in which unintentional discharge of extinguishing water must be avoided at all costs. With this system, the extinguishing process only starts when two independent trigger mechanisms are activated simultaneously.

Areas of application

Sprinkler systems can be used universally - independently or integrated into a multiple system. They are therefore suitable for almost any fire protection requirement.

  • Industrial plants

  • Production halls

  • Logistics centres

  • High-bay warehouses

  • Underground car parks

  • Office buildings

  • Hospitals and nursing homes

  • Exhibition halls

  • Shopping centres

  • Wood processing

  • airports

  • and much more.

Major deployment in the multifunctional sports arena in Munich's Olympic Park: We equipped the entire building complex with full-surface sprinkler protection – 1 control centre, 16 stations, 85 hydrants, 17,000 sprinklers. The simultaneous classification as an assembly centre, underground car park and ancillary areas placed high demands on fire protection – both technically and in terms of building regulations. VdS and FM-Global were used as a harmonised combination of regulations.
