Foam
Systems

For special risks, water alone is not sufficient as an extinguishing solution. For flammable goods such as oil, petrol or plastics, foam  systems offer the best possible fire protection.

The principle

In the event of a fire, a closed foam blanket is placed over the source of the fire. It isolates and smothers the fire and prevents it from spreading. The foam blanket is a mixture of water, air and a foaming extinguishing agent. The properties of the extinguishing foam are customised to the specific requirements on site by adjusting the mixing ratio of the three components.

The advantages of
foam systems

Fast

Foam systems recognise a fire as soon as it starts. They localise, report and fight it immediately.

Highly effective

Extinguishing foam insulates and cools the fire. As a result, the fire is extinguished particularly quickly and effectively.

Customised

We mix the optimally effective foam variant for every requirement - for the greatest possible fire protection.

Everywhere

Foam systems are versatile problem solvers. Suitable for indoor and outdoor use. Also ideal for use over large areas.

The right foam for
every application

  • Low expansion foam

is a wet foam that achieves good throw distances. Low expansion foam sticks to surfaces. As a result, it insulates and cools the fire very effectively.

  • Medium expansion foam

can be layered up to 5 metres high. It is therefore used for flooding objects. Medium expansion foam achieves its extinguishing effect mainly through the separating effect.

  • Low expansion foam

is susceptible to wind and is therefore only used in enclosed spaces. When exposed to heat, the foam quickly breaks down into very fine water droplets. The resulting cooling effect increases the extinguishing effect.

Areas of application

Thanks to their insulating, cooling and fire extinguishing effect, foam extinguishing systems are ideal for buildings and systems in which flammable goods are stored or processed, e.g.

  • Waste incineration plants

  • Chemical industry

  • refineries

  • power stations

  • Aircraft maintenance hangars

  • Logistics halls with high plastic content

  • Tyre warehouses

  • Coal silos

  • Pipeline pumping stations

  • Mineral oil tanks incl. collection facilities

  • Ships

  • Offshore parks

Kronospan glue factories, worldwide

Kronospan produces wood-based materials for worldwide distribution. Methanol is stored in huge tanks in the company's own glue factories. A fire here would have devastating consequences. To ensure the best possible fire protection, Kronospan chose Firian as its partner. Our foam extinguishing systems protect both the methanol tanks and the huge drip pans. In the event of a fire, 13,500 litres of foam concentrate and 26 foam generators are available to quickly and safely render the fire harmless.
