High-Pressure
Water Mist (HPWM)

Effective and resource-saving: Effective and resource-saving: these systems use high-pressure atomisation to increase the extinguishing effect of the water. And consume up to 80 % less extinguishing water than sprinkler systems, for example. This effectively combats fires and at the same time reduces damage caused by extinguishing water.

The principle

Firian HPWM systems spray the extinguishing water under high pressure. This creates a fine spray mist that increases the volume of water by a factor of 1,700. When the extinguishing mist hits the source of the fire, the water vaporises - it cools the fire and displaces the oxygen. At the same time, the fine water droplets wash soot and smoke gases out of the air and knock them down.

The advantages of von
Firian HPWM systems

Protect property and the environment even more efficiently

through maximum extinguishing effect with minimum water consumption

Increased heat retention and cooling effects

due to the large droplet surface of the extinguishing water

Up to 80 % less water consumption

compared to sprinkler systems

Significantly less extinguishing damage

due to reduced water consumption

Significantly larger protected area per system

compared to sprinklers

Less space required for the water depots,

as far less extinguishing water is required. This also enables and simplifies retrofitting in existing buildings.

Customised fire protection concepts,

z. e.g. for historical buildings and other specific requirements

The right system for
every requirement

  • Modular pump system

with electric motor and water tank: The number of electric pumps can be individually adapted to the amount of extinguishing water required. A small, sporadically running pressure maintenance pump maintains the standby pressure in the pipework.

  • Nitrogen cylinders

each with a volume of 80 litres: When triggered, the nitrogen flows into the water tanks and builds up a pressure of 60 bar. The water is forced through the stainless steel pipework to the nozzles.

  • Extinguishing system with high-pressure pumps and diesel engines

If there is no secure electrical power supply available at the property, Firian uses this system. Firian customises the size of the diesel unit and the number of high-pressure pumps to your requirements.

Areas of application

HPWM systems with nitrogen cylinders:

  • Diesel generators

  • turbines

  • Manual paint booths

  • Combined heat and power plants

  • Generator and transformer rooms

Both pump systems:
Protection against OH1 to OH4 risks

  • Larger hotels and underground car parks

  • Hospitals

  • Laboratories

  • Museums

  • Listed buildings

  • Wax sealing and painting systems

  • paint warehouses

  • High-rise buildings

FAIR, Darmstadt

At the Helmholtz Centre in Darmstadt, one of the world's largest facilities for science and cutting-edge research is being built on an area of around 150,000 m²: the FAIR (Facility for Antiproton and Ion Research) particle accelerator. The entire fire protection, from planning to realisation, comes from our company. Firian fire protection systems with high-pressure water mist technology are installed in the underground tunnels. Modern Firian gas extinguishing systems are used in the laboratory buildings. A total of 4,000 sprinklers are installed.
